In his first interview since his unexpected heart bypass surgery last month, former President Bill Clinton talks with Diane Sawyer about his recovery and his decision to hit the campaign trail with Senator John Kerry. Clinton explains to Sawyer why he had little fear about this very serious operation. He also describes the dramatic images he saw while under anesthesia and tells Sawyer that it has become more clear than ever where his focus must be in the coming years. And he discusses the symptoms he ignored but hopes others will heed. "Primetime Live" airs THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Clinton tells Sawyer he didn't hesitate to proceed with the surgery. "Once I saw those test results, and once I saw all that blockage, ... it was a very matter of fact decision. I said, 'Let's go. Let's get this over with.'" Clinton, known for his tireless work ethic and boundless energy, says this rare opportunity to rest and reflect has turned out to be quite valuable. "I actually love this period. I wish it was gonna go on six more weeks. I'd sit here and read. I read a couple of books yesterday...And I'm sleeping more than I have since I turned 21...and this total reflection has been very good for me. It's been very helpful. And if you work like I have, all your life, having a period of enforced contemplation and rest is really good."

Also: Genia was an eight-year-old girl stranded in a Siberian orphanage with little hope for the future. Then came an unexpected trip to America to visit perspective adoptive parents Terri and David Young. Genia got along famously with the North Carolina couple, but when she was diagnosed with a rare, potentially fatal genetic skin disease, everything changed yet again, reports John Quiqones. Having already lost a young daughter in a tragic accident, the Youngs decided they weren't emotionally prepared to take care of Genia. But then a surprising figure emerged who understood Genia's plight as few others could, changing the Russian girl's life forever.
