JAMIE FOXX SAYS HIS BIOLOGICAL PARENTS COPPED OUT -- 60 MINUTES WEDNESDAY ON CBS

Ed Gordon Conducts 60 Minutes Wednesday Interview

Jamie Foxx is known for his stand-up routines, comedic roles and dramatic performances. In fact, some say that Foxxs portrayal of legendary singer Ray Charles in Ray is so remarkable that hes a shoo-in for an Academy Award nomination. But despite all his professional successes, Foxx tells 60 MINUTES WEDNESDAY contributor Ed Gordon, in an emotional interview, that it is still hard to come to grips with the fact that his biological parents copped out. Gordons interview will be broadcast on 60 MINUTES WEDNESDAY, Nov. 10 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Long before taking roles in Any Given Sunday, Ali or Collateral, Foxx, who was then known as Eric Bishop, was a star in his hometown of Terrell, Texas. Although he was the starting quarterback for his high school football team, the Terrell Tigers, his early accomplishments werent acknowledged by his biological parents. Adopted by his grandparents as a baby, Foxx tells Gordon during an emotional moment that his biological parents lived nearby, but seldom came to visit. I didnt need much, but just a little bit would have been, likeat least youre checking for me, Foxx tells Gordon. How can you have a son and not want to be around this type of son? says Foxx. You want your son to play football? I got that. You want your son to be smart? I have that and you only lived 26 miles away from me. Those are the things that are hard to come to grips with.

Despite all the disappointments with his biological parents, Foxx accepts the way his life has gone. Gordon asks, Would you give up all of what youve accomplished all of what youve gained, if your life had been different and your parents had been together and you with them? Foxx responds, No. No, because I know now as a parent that, in a sense, they copped out. I dont cop out on my daughter no matter how busy I am, so, you knowI wouldnt do that.
