"Remember the Titans," an inspiring sports drama based on a true story and starring two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington, will air on "The Wonderful World of Disney," SATURDAY, DECEMBER 18 (8:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network (rebroadcast. OAD: 9/27/03). ABC's telecast will feature seven additional scenes - three of which were not in the theatrical release, video release or DVD release. The feature will be presented in HDTV with 5.1-channel surround sound and also in Spanish.
"Remember the Titans" tells the story of highly successful black football coach Herman Boone (Washington: "Training Day," "Glory"), thrust into a racially charged head coaching position at a previously segregated high school. Boone discovers he is replacing the school's award-winning white coach (Will Patton, TV's "The Agency," "Entrapment"), a reverse of the circumstances that caused him to leave his last post. Both men must put aside their pride in order to meld a team divided by race.
After the coaches and players make progress during their summer training camp, they return home and to the school to face communities at odds and entrenched in old behaviors. The additional footage will further explore the depth of the relationships between the coaches and players and the social conditions that enveloped them all.
"Remember the Titans" stars Denzel Washington as Coach Herman Boone, Will Patton as Coach Bill Yoast, Wood Harris ("Paid in Full") as Julius Campbell, Ryan Hurst ("We Were Soldiers") as Gerry Bertier, Donald Adeosun Faison ("Uptown Girls") as Petey Jones, Craig Kirkwood as Jerry "Rev" Harris, Ethan Suplee ("Blow") as Louie Lastik, Kip Pardue ("The Rules of Attraction") as Ronnie "Sunshine" Bass, Hayden Panettiere ("Normal," "Joe Somebody") as Sheryl Yoast, Nicole Ari Parker ("Brown Sugar") as Carol Boone, Kate Bosworth as Emma Hoyt, Earl Poitier as Blue Stanton, Ryan Gosling as Alan Bosley, Burgess Jenkins as Ray Budds and Neal Ghant as Glascoe.
The 2000 feature was directed by Boaz Yakin ("Uptown Girls") and written by Gregory Allen Howard ("Ali"). The film was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Films, Technical Black and Walt Disney Pictures. (CLOSED-CAPTIONED)
