NEW CLUES IN HOLLYWOODS MOST FAMOUS UNSOLVED MURDER
48 HOURS MYSTERY: BLACK DAHLIA CONFIDENTIAL
SATURDAY, NOV. 27
48 HOURS MYSTERY has new clues in Los Angeles most famous unsolved murder, the 57-year-old Black Dahlia case. The brutal murder of Elizabeth Short, a young, beautiful, struggling actress whose body was discovered in a vacant lot in January 1947, has baffled the Los Angeles Police Department for decades. Correspondent Erin Moriarty reports for the 48 HOURS MYSTERY: Black Dahlia Confidential, to be broadcast Saturday, Nov. 27 (10:00 11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
After Shorts death, newspapers began calling her the Black Dahlia the name taken from the movie of the time The Blue Dahlia. What made the case even more intriguing-- the killer sent handwritten notes to the tabloids, taunting authorities. Former Los Angeles Detective Steve Hodel now thinks he may know who killed the Black Dahlia and has written a book, Black Dahlia Avenger, identifying his father, Dr. George Hodel, as the killer.
Hodels father, George, is believed to have known Short through his infamous Hollywood parties. And Hodel claims that a small photo album his father left him contains two photos of Short. Hodel also believes that handwriting on the mysterious postcards and letters sent to the newspapers is definitely his fathers. 48 HOURS hired forensic experts to examine Hodels evidence for the broadcast. And, 48 HOURS and The Los Angeles Times were granted an exclusive briefing on the case by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Will Los Angeles most famous murder ever be solved?
