THE DESIGN TEAM GOES BEHIND THE SCENES TO SHOW HOW THEY PROVIDED
A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR A CRITICALLY ILL TEEN, IN THE LATEST INSTALLMENT
OF "EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION -- HOW'D THEY DO THAT"
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: How'd They Do That? (Sears Family)" - The producers from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" literally open every door to show how Ty Pennington and his team of designers, workers and contractors are able to change the lives of deserving families as they rebuild the entire interior and exterior of a run-down house in just seven days. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: How'd They Do That?" goes behind-the-scenes of the remarkable renovation process in an episode airing MONDAY, JANUARY 24 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.
On Sunday, January 23, viewers will witness how the EM:HE team spectacularly rebuilds the Martinez, California home for the Sears Family. Last year 17-year-old Jhyrve (pronounced Ger-VAY) Sears left her home with her mom, Karen, to go to Duke University Hospital in North Carolina, the only hospital where Jhyve could undergo a new treatment for Krabbe Disease, a rare genetic disorder she has which is caused by an enzyme deficiency. But after Jhyrve finished her treatment, the doctors didn't want her to return to her home because she would be living in a mold-infested house, which could seriously compromise her health.
The design team from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" came and was able to provide Jhyrve with a safe environment to continue her recovery. In this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: How'd They Do That?," the process of Sears home makeover is the subject.
As with all of the intense remodeling projects the show undertakes, a great deal that goes on does not make it into the final broadcast. Now viewers can see all of that and more, including:
* Ty's reaction when he realizes a day before the family returns that a major element of the renovation has been placed in the wrong room -- and how he solves the problem.
* The challenges that John, the bus driver -- the guy behind the wheel when the cheering neighbors yell "move that bus!" right before the reveal -- goes through as he maneuvers the bus up the steep and narrow street that leads to the Sears' home.
* Paul's visit to former EM:HE recipients, the Cadigan-Scott family from nearby Livermore, California. They are the eight siblings who lost their parents within two weeks of each other.
* How new designer Eduardo Xol, a former Latin recording artist, is inspired to write a sweet ballad for Jhyrve and her family upon their return to their new home.
The design team for this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: How'd They Do That?" will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Constance Ramos, Michael Moloney, Paul DiMeo and Eduardo Xol. The show is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. The series is executive-produced by Tom Forman. The co-executive producer of this episode is Michael Maloy. A TV parental guideline will be assigned closer to airdate.
