Bringing Down the House tells the story of Peter Sanderson (Martin), a straight-arrow, recently divorced attorney who stills longs for his ex-wife and wonders why she left him. In trying to move on with his life, he falls into the grasp of a woman he meets chatting online. He envisions an intelligent, captivating, legal eagle, but in their first face-to-face meeting, Peters visions of Charlene (Queen Latifah) go up in smoke. When the smoke clears, she isnt polished, isnt scholarly and isnt even a lawyer. Instead shes a prison convict who has managed to break out of jail, still professing her innocence, and she wants Peter to help her clear her name. He has other intentions, however, and wants no part of her plan -- which leads the boisterous and rowdy Charlene to turn Peters simple life into utter chaos, jeopardizing his effort to get back with his wife and to woo a billion-dollar client.
