"White Balance" -- When a white teen-aged girl and an African-American teen-aged boy coincidentally vanish on the same night, Jack attempts to counteract Vivian's prediction that the media and FBI will focus on the white girl's case, on a rebroadcast of WITHOUT A TRACE, on a special night and time, Saturday, Jan. 27 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Jeff Thomas directed the episode written by Greg Walker, one of the series' executive producers. (Originally broadcast 5/11/06)

Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe Award nominee Lynn Whitfield ("The Josephine Baker Story") returns as Jack's superior, ASAC (Assistant Special Agent in Charge) Paula Van Doran. Tony Award winner Viola Davis ("King Hedley II" "Seven Guitars" and the upcoming feature film "The Architect," also starring Anthony LaPaglia) and Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie ("Kiss Me, Kate," "Passion," "Ragtime") guest star, respectively, as the missing boy and girl's mothers. George Newbern ("Providence," "Father of the Bride" and its sequel) guest stars as a reporter.

Despite Jack's attempts to generate press on both cases, Emily Grant's disappearance garners all of the media attention and, as a result, gets a steady stream of leads. As Vivian anticipates, Van Doran (Whitfield) orders Jack to allocate more resources to follow up on the leads on Emily's case, which means diverting FBI attention away from the Darnell Williams investigation. Well aware of the turn of events, Darnell's mother, Audrey (Davis), pointedly asks Jack who is running the investigations: the FBI or the media?
