Kathy Griffin Tries to Become "The Red-Headed Oprah,"
Takes Another Stab at Dating and Treks Across the Pond
To Trace Her Irish Roots
BURBANK, CA July 19, 2007 On the season finale of Bravo's hit series "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List," the flame-haired comedienne does her best to become the "red-headed Oprah" by handing out money on the streets of Los Angeles, Tuesday, July 24 at 10:00pm ET/PT. Kathy Griffin also finds out she is being honored by Irish American Magazine as one of their Top 100 for 2007 never mind that her mother nominated her for the award. After receiving the honor in New York, Griffin starts to feel a hankering to reconnect with her roots and jumps at the chance to visit Dublin when she's invited by the Irish Tourism Board. While in Ireland, Griffin commemorates her father by scattering his ashes and offering to buy a pint for any fellow "Griffin's" she encounters.
GRIFFIN ON HER OPRAH COMPLEX:
"I want to be the red-headed Oprah and do Oprah-like acts of generosity... But mostly I just like the tons of publicity she gets for everything she does."
GRIFFIN ON BEING NAMED ONE OF THE TOP IRISH-AMERICANS FOR 2007:
"I'm not just a shallow cover girl; I also get to go to New York for Irish Immigrant Magazine!"
"Hilary Clinton is supposed to be there [The Irish Immigrant Awards] as well as Martin Sheen, who are also proud Irish-Americans. Although, I don't think people know about Hilary. She may be like one-sixteenth because she's going to go get a Navajo Indian Award at nine o'clock tonight after this."
GRIFFIN'S ACCEPATANCE SPEECH FOR THE IRISH IMMIGRANT AWARDS:
"I just want to thank the people who have supported me along the way: Jesus, Mary, and Josephand every leprechaun I've ever met in a field dancing on a four-leaf clover."
"This is, uh, smaller than the Gay Porn Award. I don't mean to brag, but it was larger and moreoh, Gaelic! Ok, good. Well, as long as there's 'gay' in there."
GRIFFIN WEIGHING IN ON THE IMMIGRATION DEBATE WITH HER MOTHER:
Kathy: "Did both of your parents come over on the boat in steerage and that whole thing?"
Kathy's Mom: "Yes, with six kids and she was pregnant!"
Kathy: "Now, Mom, why don't you and Bill O'Reilly want the Mexicans to come live here, again?"
GRIFFIN ON HER FAN BASE:
"The gays love me. I'm like Cher almost. I'm like Cher Light."
