"Pilot" -- A documentary crew follows a disparate group of high school seniors from Greenbelt High School's class of 2000 in Austin, TX as they prepare for graduation, and revisits them in 2010 to see where they are now: Steven Foster, "the overachiever," succumbed to pressures and escaped to Hawaii to be a free spirit, but a call from Caroline Chung, the shy "wallflower," brings him back to Austin when he learns they have a nine-year-old son together. Once back, he bumps into Jackie Vachs, the "beauty queen" who went to Hollywood but came back and got married when that didn't pan out. Their encounter exposes some chips in her veneer of marital bliss with Anders Holt, "the rich kid" whose charmed life took an unexpected turn after breaking up with Brenda Serrano, his high school sweetheart, who was was the class "brain" and is now a Congressional aide in DC.
The film crew also catches up with Kenneth Finley, "the nerd," who stayed in Austin and became a teacher. He's created a sort of surrogate family by allowing his former high school girlfriend, Dawn Barbuso, "the punk," to stay at his house until her baby is born. Her husband, Rolly Marks, "the jock," is away in Afghanistan, having foregone his athletic scholarship and joined the army after 9/11. And Falcon, "the rock star" who is everyone's friend, is on track to become a music producer. As the lives of these nine friends are documented, we get an intimate look at how much can change over ten years. (Rebroadcast. OAD 9/23/10)
