A COLLEGE GIRL IS UNDER SUSPICION AFTER HER BOYFRIEND COMMITS MURDER, ON "48 HOURS MYSTERY," SATURDAY, JULY 2

Debate the Case on Facebook with Correspondent Maureen Maher

Laura Hall was like any other college student. She was living in Austin, Texas, where she attended the University of Texas while dating the guy of her dreams, business student Colton Pitonyak, and planning to go to law school. But on the morning of Aug. 17, 2005, Hall entered into a nightmare when she found the body of 21-year-old Jennifer Cave, a friend of Pitonyak's, brutally murdered in the bathtub in Pitonyak's apartment. Within days of the murder, authorities captured Pitonyak and Hall in Mexico. While Hall claimed that she went to Mexico against her will, police believed she was helping Pitonyak escape. Maureen Maher reports on 48 HOURS MYSTERY "In Too Deep," on Saturday, July 2 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Click here for a sneak peek of this episode.

Jennifer's body had been severely mutilated, stabbed dozens of times and dismembered. At his trial, Pitonyak stunned the courtroom when he testified that it was, in fact, Hall who dismembered her. The jury found her guilty of tampering with the body and hindering Pitonyak's apprehension, and she was sentenced to five years in prison. She appealed that sentence, lost, and it was doubled to ten years. Her conviction still stands, and as of today, Laura Hall is scheduled to be released from prison in 2018. She will be 34.
