A CRIME SPREE ESCALATES FROM A SERIES OF BIZARRE THEFTS TO GRUESOME MURDERS, UNRAVELING THE SECRET DOUBLE LIFE OF A TOP MILITARY COMMANDER WHO HAD FLOWN QUEEN ELIZABETH
"NAME, RANK AND SERIAL KILLER?"
TUESDAY, JUNE 12, 10:00 ET/PT
Colonel Russell Williams was in charge of Ontario's Trenton Air Force Base and regularly trusted to fly dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth around the world. However, as 48 HOURS MYSTERY correspondent Susan Spencer reports in an update of "Name, Rank and Serial Killer?" (LAD, 8/2/11), no one expected a turn of events that would link Williams to strange crimes going on in and around the sleepy Canadian town of Tweed. In 2007, Tweed was plagued by a series of bizarre lingerie thefts. Two years later, one of Williams' neighbors was blindfolded, terrorized and photographed in sexual positions. Soon after, a woman in a neighboring town went missing and police found tire tracks and a boot print outside her home. Williams was tripped up in February 2010 when he was stopped at a random roadblock, where an eagle-eyed investigator noticed his tire tread pattern. What unraveled was a world of ghastly crimes, a collection of stolen lingerie, child porn and murder. Spencer reports on the most unlikely of killers and conducts the first TV interview with one of his assault victims.
"Name, Rank and Serial Killer?" is one of several rebroadcast and updated editions of 48 HOURS MYSTERY that will air Tuesdays at 10:00 PM this summer in addition to the program's usual Saturday 10:00 PM telecasts.
