A BEAUTIFUL WIFE IS SUDDENLY DEAD - WOULD A TWIN KNOW IF HIS BROTHER WAS A KILLER? - SATURDAY ON "48 HOURS: LINA'S HEART"
Erin Moriarty and 48 HOURS investigate the death of Lina Kaufman, a married mother of two, who was found by her husband in their bathroom slumped over a magazine rack, in an updated edition of "Lina's Heart" to be broadcast Saturday, June 22, 2013 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
It's a story that gripped Aventura, Fla., in 2007, because Kaufman was just 33 years old when she died, and the circumstances around her passing were so strange. The investigation into what happened raised questions about her health, possible allergic reaction to a spray tan, and eventually allegations of murder.
Lina's husband, Adam Kaufman, found his wife that day and tried to revive her. "I just remember being in a frantic mode to save her," Kaufman tells Moriarty.
The sudden death was hard to comprehend for Lina's friends and family. Police had trouble believing it, too. Adam says he badgered the medical examiner's office for 18 months seeking an explanation for his wife's death. Then, in April 2009, he got an answer neither he, nor his family expected, when he was charged with killing his wife by "mechanical asphyxiation."
"Eighteen months later, it was like a second death in the family," Seth Kaufman, Adam's twin brother, tells Moriarty.
Moriarty and the 48 HOURS team piece together Lina's life and the police investigation in this updated rebroadcast of "Lina's Heart," which is produced by Lisa Freed and Tamara Weitzman. Elena DiFiore is the field producer. Doreen Schechter is the producer/editor. Joan Adelman, David Franklin and Marcus Balsam are the editors. Kate Harrington and Linda Martin are the update producers. Judy Tygard is the senior producer. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.
