A YOUNG WOMAN COMES FACE-TO-FACE WITH A SERIAL KILLER AND A COUPLE IS ASSASSINATED IN THEIR HOME IN A "48 HOURS" DOUBLE FEATURE - SATURDAY, AUGUST 3, 2013
A young college student goes face-to-face with a cross-country serial killer and a wealthy couple is assassinated in their home in a Saturday double feature of CBS News' 48 HOURS to be broadcast August 3, 2013 on the CBS Television Network.
Peter Van Sant reports on the murders of Dennis and Merna Koula, who were assassinated in their La Crosse, Wis., home in May 2010, in an updated encore of 48 HOURS: "Desperate Measures" to be broadcast at 10:00 PM, ET/PT. The Koulas were found dead by their son Eric, who went to the house after they failed to answer his calls. Dennis was found shot on the floor, while Merna was slumped over her computer.
Police said it looked like an assassination and that the Koulas were killed by someone waiting for them. The investigation led in several directions, including a tip from a neighbor - a banker - who said he had gotten death threats. A Google map search for his address actually led to the Koulas' home. But was it a case of mistaken identity or was it intentional?

The double feature begins at 9:00 PM, ET/PT with an updated encore of 48 HOURS: "Live to Tell: The Railroad Killer" featuring Holly Dunn's gripping first-person account of crossing paths with an infamous serial killer.
The story is set in 1997, when Dunn, then a junior at the University of Kentucky, wandered away from a party with her boyfriend Chris Maier. As they returned from their midnight stroll, a dark figure holding a sharp object emerged. What they thought would be a robbery, turned horrific when the attacker bound and gagged them. He then bashed Maier's head with a rock and raped Dunn.
Determined to survive, Dunn left clues at the scene and tried to remember any identifying marks on her attacker's body. Then he smashed her head and left her for dead. She lived and would later learn she was the sole survivor of a multi-state serial killer - Angel Maturino Resendiz.
