"48 HOURS PRESENTS: MURDER AT SEA?"

Nearly a decade to the day of the disappearance of George Smith, his family reveals to 48 HOURS that they're "devastated" that the FBI has determined there isn't enough evidence to continue the investigation and vow to keep seeking answers to the what happened to their loved one in an updated broadcast of "48 HOURS PRESENTS: "Murder at Sea?" to be presented Saturday, July 4 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Richard Schlesinger and 48 HOURS report on the family's quest for answers to the disappearance of Smith, a newlywed who went missing the night of July 4, 2005 while on a honeymoon cruise. A year ago, his family offered a $100,000 reward. At the time, the reward, along with a fresh team of FBI agents assigned to the case, gave the family hope for the closure they've long sought in the case of their missing son. But in January 2015, the FBI determined there wasn't "sufficient evidence" to continue its investigation.

"We're devastated," says Smith's father George Smith, in a new interview with 48 HOURS. "It was just devastating to my family."

Smith was last seen alive after a night of heavy drinking and gambling on the cruise ship. His wife, Jennifer Smith, was later found passed out in a hallway. Smith was never found, though passengers noticed a bloodstain on a lifeboat canopy. The ship's captain has described the incident as a likely accident. His family, however, believes he was murdered.

"I never expected to be 67 and still sitting here trying to get answers for my son," George Smith says. "It's sad. We should be on with our life. But we're not."

The family's attorney still believes a key to the case is a videotape made hours after Smith disappeared of three of the four men to last see him alive commenting about him in a callous way. Lawyers for all four men say they had nothing to do with Smith's disappearance.

"They can shut down the investigation, but they're not going to shut down me," says Smith's sister, Bree. "I'm going to continue until there's answers and justice for George."
