"48 HOURS" INVESTIGATES TWO STRANGE DEATHS THAT RAISE QUESTIONS OF WHETHER THEY WERE ACCIDENTS OR SOMETHING ELSE, IN A SATURDAY-NIGHT DOUBLE FEATURE ON JULY 2

9:00 PM, ET/PT: "48 Hours: Power and Passion"

10:00 PM, ET/PT: "48 Hours Presents: The Bugs Bunny Defense"

Correspondent Richard Schlesinger and 48 HOURS investigate two strange murder cases that raise the ultimate question of whether those deaths were accidents, suicides or something else, on Saturday, July 2.

Schlesinger and 48 HOURS investigate the death of Angel Downs, a beautiful real estate agent who was found faceup in front of her home, dead from a shot to the head, on Mother's Day 2010, in an encore of "Power and Passion," to be broadcast at 9:00 PM, ET/PT on the CBS Television Network. A pistol she owned lay inches from her body. As Schlesinger reported, the death occurred minutes after Downs was dropped off by her boyfriend, Stephen Nodine, a married powerful politician. Nodine told Schlesinger he did not kill Angel Downs and was nowhere near the driveway when the fatal shot was fired. He believes it was Angel who pulled the trigger. "Power and Passion" follows the investigation and prosecution of Nodine, which included multiple unexpected legal twists. But did the district attorney, with a re-election vote a week and a day away, have enough to convict Nodine? And were politics involved in charging Nodine with murder?

Then at 10:00 PM, ET/PT, Schlesinger and 48 HOURS investigate the death of Patrick Duffey and the incredible story that his wife, Linda Duffey, told police about what happened to him, in an encore presentation of "The Bugs Bunny Defense." Linda Duffey shot her husband - that is clear. What's not so clear is what led up to the shooting. Prosecutors said it was a coldhearted murder. Duffey, however, maintained it was an accident that occurred when she and her husband, Patrick, re-enacted a moment from a Bugs Bunny cartoon. The case was so shocking that it left police questioning whether what happened was a situation of an accidental death imitating art or if it was an intentional murder. Was it an accident? Was it murder? The investigation would drag on for five years before Linda Duffey was arrested and charged with murder.

By then she was remarried and living in Mississippi. At her first trial, her team used the Bugs Bunny defense. The case ended with a deadlocked jury. Schlesinger and 48 HOURS were there for her second trial and to interview investigators, forensic experts, friends and family.
