A CALIFORNIA POLICE OFFICER SHOT DEAD IN HIS HOME - HIS EX-WIFE ADMITS SHE PULLED THE TRIGGER - DID A PHOTO POSTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA LEAD TO THE OFFICER'S DEATH?

"48 Hours" Investigates in "The Killing of Officer Green"

Saturday, Dec. 7

In February 2015, Exeter, Calif., police officer Daniel Green was shot four times and left for dead in his home. At first, his ex-wife Erika Sandoval denied having anything to do with his death. Then she changed her story.

Correspondent Erin Moriarty and 48 HOURS investigate the death of the police officer and the case against Sandoval in "The Killing of Officer Green" to be broadcast Saturday, Dec. 7 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

48 HOURS takes viewers inside a twisted - friends say toxic - relationship between an officer and his ex-wife and a murder that rocked a California city, leaving behind the family of the beloved policeman struggling with life without him. Green's family says the officer was a victim of domestic abuse and prosecutors agreed. Erika Sandoval's defense attorney Dan Chambers says she gave as good as she got. "Both were victims and both were aggressors," Chambers told the jury during his closing.

Green was found dead after he didn't show up for work. Initially, investigators wondered whether his death was related to his police work. Soon after, they would learn it was a bad relationship that exploded into violence.

The broadcast features the first network television interviews with Green's identical twin brother, Matt Green, and his sister, Misty Gray, who piece together their brother's life with Sandoval, including their marriage and divorce.

"When everything was going the way they should be in her eyes, she was pleasant to be around. She was social, and she was nice," says Matt Green. "She was kind... it's only when things went bad or things didn't go her way that she became nasty and things got ugly between the two of them... . And from what I saw, the bad was really bad."

Sandoval was arrested and charged with her ex-husband's murder just one week after he posted an image on Instagram with his new, younger girlfriend.

What led to Green's death? Did a picture on Instagram lead Sandoval to crack? Or did Sandoval shoot Green after what she claimed were years of physical abuse?
