Mills Confirms 'Kingpin' Cancellation by Nbc
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) - With NBC's fall schedule announcement less than 48 hours away, "Kingpin" executive producer David Mills has made it clear his show won't be on it. In a post to the "rec.arts.tv" newsgroup, the producer broke the news:

Not that it'll come as much of a shock to this newsgroup, but my show "Kingpin" won't be coming back. The phrase for it, in the TV game, is "six and out."

But I'm feeling pretty good about those six.

It's a funny thing... you create a TV show, and you tend to think anybody who watches it will dig it as much as you do. Just as I'm sure most parents believe the whole world shares their opinion on the matter of their child's good looks. Who could think otherwise?

So, yes sir, I thought "Kingpin" fucking rocked. Particularly the last three eps. And I fancy myself a clear-eyed assessor of my own work product. I know when I'm stroking like I'm supposed to. (I also know fine acting when I see it. And extraordinary production design. And first-rate cinematography. And slammin' music.)

Yet I kinda knew something was amiss back when the show premiered, when I'd tune into rec.arts.tv expecting a symphony of commentary and debate on multifarious aspects of "Kingpin," only to hear fucking crickets. I had this funny feeling in my stomach; I realized it wasn't connecting "out there" on a mass level. And I very much expected that it would.

Oh well. I certainly hope you all will see a lot more of Yancey Arias, Angela Alvarado, Shay Roundtree, Bobby Cannavale, Brian Benben, Sheryl Lee and Ruben Carbajal in the future. I damn sure know you'll be seeing more of me.

And when "Kingpin" is widely released on DVD in July, you pinche cabrons who weren't impressed the first time need to look again.
