WB Greenlights Four Comedies, Two Dramas for Fall Schedule
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) - Coming off its best season to date, the WB will try to up the ante even further next season as the Frog network has greenlighted four new comedies and two new dramas. The pickups come as the WB gets ready to unveil its fall schedule tomorrow morning as part of its upfront presentation to the advertising community.

Here's a night-by-night breakdown of what's on tap for next season:

-- Mondays as expected will remain the Frog's dynamite duo of "7th Heaven" and "Everwood."

-- Tuesdays have "Gilmore Girls" kicking off the night at 8:00/7:00c followed by the Rachael Leigh Cook-led drama "Fearless," which had been a dark horse to make the schedule last week. "One Tree Hill," which had been in competition for the Tuesday, 9:00/8:00c slot, is likely set for a midseason order.

-- Wednesdays see the WB moving its powerhouse "Smallville" to open the night, leading into fellow returning drama "Angel."

-- "Tarzan & Jane," the network's highest-profile pilot, is a go for the Sunday, 9:00/8:00c slot following "Charmed." It is not known as of yet what will air at 7:00/6:00c.

-- While the exact breakdown of the Frog's Thursday and Friday night schedules are not known, its membership however is. Fridays are expected to see "Reba" shift to 8:00/7:00c followed by either "Like Family" or "All About the Andersons" with "Grounded for Life" taking over the 9:00/8:00c slot. "Family" or "Andersons" will then fill out the night at 9:30/8:30c.

-- Thursdays see "The Jamie Kennedy Experiment" returning, likely at 9:30/8:30c, while "What I Like About You" will shift to Thursdays at 8:00/7:00c followed by newcomer "Run of the House." Lastly, the WB's talk/variety show hosted by Steve Harvey is expected to land the 9:00/8:00c slot. Again, these four may be jumbled to different times on the same night.

-- At midseason, in addition to "One Tree Hill," orders are expected to go out to dramas "Other People's Business" and the untitled "Gilmore Girls" spin-off, the latter of which is contigent on finding a showrunner. On the comedy front, "Kid Mayor," "The Help," and "Sixteen to Life" are on the cusp of midseason orders, as is the reality project "Make My Day."

-- Getting the axe then are freshman series "Black Sash," "Do Over," "Family Affair," "On the Spot" and "Greetings from Tucson." "Sash" is already set to burn off its remaining episodes beginning Sunday, May 25.
