'Queer Eye' Does It Again; 'Nip/Tuck' Starts Strong
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- After shattering Bravo's ratings records last week, "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" did it again on Tuesday night beating its own premiere in the network's prized adults 25-54 demographic.

Week two of "Queer" was seen by 1,274,000 viewers in the demographic, up 7% from last week (1,166,000) as well as 1,147,000 viewers in adults 18-49. Overall, the new episode was seen by 1,569,000 total viewers and earned a 1.39 household rating, making it the second most-watched show in the history of the network, behind only its premiere last week.

The series has done so well for Bravo, parent company NBC is airing a special half-hour version of the series' pilot tonight at 9:30/8:30c.

Meanwhile, fellow cabler FX also got some great news with the premiere of its new original series "Nip/Tuck." The special 90-minute episode was seen by 3.7 million viewers making it the fifth most-watched bow in basic cable history.

Such numbers eclipsed the debut of recent FX entry "Lucky," which was seen by 2.5 million viewers (4/8/03) but fell short of "The Shield's" 4.8 million for its bow last year (3/12/02).

"Nip/Tuck's" real draw however was among adults 18-49 (1.6/5) where it finished third in its time slot among all broadcast and cable networks, behind only "Dateline NBC" and a special episode of ABC's "Primetime Live."

Lastly, completing the good news trifecta was British import "MI-5" for A&E. The series, known as "Spooks" in the U.K., averaged 1.8 million viewers in its 9:00/8:00c slot, an increase of 45% over the network's recent primetime average. In addition, the drama pulled 757,000 viewers in adults 25-54 and 636,000 in adults 18-49.
