CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX has pulled the plug on its struggling summer drama "Keen Eddie." The news comes just one week before the show's previously announced return on August 28.
In its place FOX plans to fill the Thursday, 8:00/7:00c hour with a mix of new and repeat episodes of "Anything for Love" and "Stupid Behavior Caught on Tape." The move won't affect the Thursday launch of "Temptation Island 3" at 9:00/8:00c on August 28.
For its seven airings this summer, "Eddie" averaged a 2.2 rating and 6 share among adults 18-49 and 5.1 million viewers overall. The network still has six episodes of the series in the can.
Meanwhile in other FOX news, the network also announced it will air the special "What's in the Fox Box 2003" on Sunday, August 31 at 7:00/6:00c. The half-hour broadcast will give a sneak peek at the new season of the network's kids lineup. "Fox Box" takes the place of the 7:00/6:00c repeat of "Futurama." The 7:30/6:30c "Futurama" repeat will air as previously announced.
Lastly, FOX has revealed it plans to fill its Sunday schedule with theatrical movies for the month of September. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" will have its world broadcast premiere on September 7 during which viewers can catch a four-minute trailer for the new season of "24." On Sunday, September 14 look for "The Lost World: Jurassic Park 2" with the network's Emmy coverage on September 21. Rounding out the month is "The Vertical Limit" on September 28. FOX's baseball coverage is expected to take over during October, leading up the season premieres of its Sunday series on November 2.
