CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- MTV has ordered second seasons of its freshman series "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica" and "Doggy Fizzle Televizzle." In addition, the network has picked up a 13th edition of its reality franchise "Road Rules."
The renewal of "Newlyweds" shouldn't come as much of a surprise. The reality series snagged 2.5 million viewers (1.9 million in adults 18-49) for last week's episode (September 30), dead even with its premiere audience in August. MTV hopes to have the new season of 10 episodes ready for early next year.
As for "Doggy Fizzle," the Snoop Dogg-hosted sketch comedy series helped improve MTV's Sunday, 10:00/9:00c time slot average by 30% during the month of June. The network has committed to six new installments of the series, which like "Newlyweds" is expected to bow early next year.
Lastly, workhorse "Road Rules" will return for a truncated 13-episode season next summer. The show's 12th season wrapped last month.
Still to be determined are the fates of such series as "Making the Band 2," "Spider-Man," "Surf Girls" and "Who's Got Game."
