CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- ABC is looking to give its midseason comedy "The Big House" an extra boost, as the network announced today plans to air a brand-new installment of the series on Wednesday, April 14 at 8:30/7:30c sandwiched between new episodes of "My Wife and Kids" and "The Bachelor."
Here's how the Alphabet describes the episode, entitled "A Friend in Need," in its press materials: "The family is overjoyed when Eartha brings home a boyfriend, Martin (guest star Malcolm Barrett), who unexpectedly hits it off with friendless, new-in-town Kevin. Eartha and Kevin soon begin competing to spend time with Martin, with comical results, on "The Big House," WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14 (8:30-9:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network."
To make room for the switch, ABC will move up the show's previously announced schedule as "The Kidney Stays in the Picture" will now air on April 16, "The Anniversary Party" on April 23 and "Kevin's Birthday" - its season finale - on April 30.
"The Big House" opened to 3.8 rating/7 share in households and 2.1 rating in adults 18-49 this past Friday according to preliminary fast national data. Both scores came in behind former slot holder "Married to the Kellys'" most recent airing on March 26 (households: 4.6/8; adults 18-49: 2.6).
