FOX Rushes 'Trading Spouses' Onto Schedule
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- After hitting several bumps with scripted programming this summer, FOX will head back to one of its favorite genres when "Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy" premieres on Tuesday, July 20 at 8:00/7:00c.

The series will take over for repeats of "The Bernie Mac Show" and "Method & Red" in the slot while repeats of "That '70s Show" and "Quintuplets" will continue to run in the 9:00/8:00c hour.

FOX has been the focus of several barbs from other network executives as of late due to the similarity of "Trading Spouses" and ABC's "Wife Swap" as well as "The Next Great Champ" and NBC's "The Contender."

"Quite frankly, they used to be innovators, and now they're imitators," NBC topper Jeff Zucker told reporters at the Peacock's session of the TCA's summer press tour this weekend. "It's just bad for the business, and it's bad for everybody, and I don't think that all is fair in love and television." FOX has yet to counter Zucker's comments.

"Spouses'" debut date was announced via press release late yesterday afternoon:

"TRADING SPOUSES: MEET YOUR NEW MOMMY" PREMIERES TUESDAY, JULY 20, ON FOX

Moms and dads trade houses and spouses on TRADING SPOUSES: MEET YOUR NEW MOMMY, premiering Tuesday, July 20 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

In this fresh take on the classic fish-out-of-water story, moms and dads try out the ultimate life change, ditching their families to take over a clan from another walk of life. For some, it's a dream vacation; for others, a living hell.

It seems like a fantasy at first: the ultimate chance to find out if the grass actually is greener on the other side. But the fairy tale gets twisted as the new parent moves in, meets the new family, and realizes it may be way more than he or she bargained for. While some parents are welcomed with open arms, others face mutiny from their new household. It takes family comedy -- and drama -- to a whole new place.

TRADING SPOUSES: MEET YOUR NEW MOMMY is from Rocket Science Laboratories, the producers of "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fianc" and "Joe Millionaire." Jean-Michel Michenaud and Chris Cowan serve as executive producers. Sean Alvarez is producer. Charles Duncombe serves as executive in charge of production.

In addition, FOX has released detailed descriptions of the show's first two episodes:
