LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- Ryan Seacrest is "out" as Twentieth Television has announced his series "On Air With Ryan Seacrest" will not return for a second season.
Production on the series will halt immediately as a mix of previously taped original content and repeats will run through the show's final airing on Friday, September 17.
The announcement came shortly after word broke that a block Sinclair Broadcasting stations were preparing to drop the series in more than 20 markets. Overall this season "On Air" has averaged a 1.0 household rating since its debut eight months ago, including a 0.8 rating among women 18-34 and a 0.7 rating among women 18-49, the show's two target demographics.
No replacement for "On Air" has been named by the Fox owned-and-operated stations which were responsible for the show's clearances across most of the country.
Twentieth Television issued a brief statement about the move, saying the show's numbers were "not as strong as we had hoped."
Despite the show's cancellation Seacrest himself will remain with the studio, as the host's option was picked up earlier this month (read the story).
