'North Shore,' 'Simple Life' to Stay Put at Fox

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX is sticking by its struggling drama "North Shore," as the network has given the summer entry a full season order of 22 episodes. In addition, the network also confirmed this week it has renewed its reality smash "The Simple Life" for a third cycle.
The back-nine order for "Shore" comes on the heels of Monday's announcement that Shannen Doherty will make a three-episode appearance on the series with the option to become a full-time regular (read the story).
To date this season, the series is averaging 4.63 million viewers including a 2.1 rating/7share among adults 18-49 and a 2.3/8 among adults 18-34. "Shore" returns with new episodes on Monday, September 6.
As for "The Simple Life," the show's second season averaged a stellar 9.1 million viewers during its eight-week run. It's not clear however if FOX is targeting the series' third season for midseason or summer 2005.
Overall, "Shore's" pick-up, along with the comedy "Quintuplets," marks the second series of FOX's summer rollout to earn a full season order: fellow newcomer "The Jury" got the hook after 10 episodes while "Method & Red" is still waiting on its September numbers to see if the show will continue beyond its initial 13-episode run.
