Atomic Betty Set to Blast off on Cartoon Network
on Friday, Sept. 17
New Episodes to Air Sundays at 9:30 p.m. (ET, PT) Beginning Sept. 19
For a girl like Betty, life is a little complicated: Theres school, household chores and hanging out with friends, but on top of that, there is her secret life as Galactic Guardian and Defender of the Cosmos. The young heroine must juggle her role protecting the universe from the evil plans of Supreme Overlord Maximus I.Q. with her life at home on Earth. Cartoon Network will launch the new 30-minute animated action-comedy, Atomic Betty, with a sneak peak episode on Friday, Sept. 17, at 9:30 p.m. (ET, PT). Beginning Sept. 19, Atomic Betty premieres will air on Sundays at 8:30 p.m. (ET, PT) with a replay Fridays at 9:30 p.m. (ET, PT).
Meeting the expectations of a Galactic Guardian and Defender of the Cosmos is tough enough, but balancing it with her normal life as a student at Moose Jaw Heights Junior High is nearly impossible for Betty. While other girls her age indulge in manicures and trips to the mall, Betty plows through space encyclopedias. Her mysterious disappearances and curious behavior make her seem a little odd to all the other neighborhood kids, but its a tremendous honor to uphold the codes and ethics required of a Galactic Guardian. Betty would never jeopardize her secret identity for an improved social life on Earth. And besides, if her Mom and Dad found out what kind of danger she faces every day, she would be grounded for sure.
Life on Earth is nothing like the high-profile title Betty has to the galaxy. Betty, the likable Earth girl, is usually hanging out with Noah, a friend who may have a secret crush on her; dodging snide comments from stuck-up rich girl Penelope, or warding off Sir Purrsefus, the spoiled, purebred family cat. Just like a bratty sibling, Sir Purrsefus wants all the attention and is always trying to get Betty in trouble with her parents. And Bettys frequent and unexplained disappearances give the conniving cat plenty of opportunity to make her look like the bad kid.
Since the threat of danger is unpredictable, Betty is ready for action at all times, no matter what else she might be doing. Admiral DeGill, commander in chief of the Galactic Guardian and Planet Protectors Battalion 147, summons Betty whenever there is a threat to the universe. To DeGill, the safety of the galaxy takes precedence over any skateboard championship or science fair, which sometimes puts Betty in an awkward situation. With the help of her two sidekicks and loyal companions, Sparky, the occasionally reckless first lieutenant, and Robot X-5, the mechanical know-it-all, Betty always manages to save the universe from cataclysmic disaster. And whatever threat it is, its a safe bet that her archenemy, Supreme Overlord Maximus I.Q., is behind it in his nefarious quest for galactic domination.
Atomic Betty was created by Atomic Cartoons and developed by Breakthrough Animation and Fresh Produce. It is produced by Breakthrough Animation, Atomic Cartoons and Teleimages Kids. Twenty-six episodes have been produced and will air on Cartoon Network.
