[09/16/04 - 12:00 AM] More Delays: FOX's 'Athens,' CBS' 'Race,' Elfman Project By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC) |
|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- Two more series are being pushed back while one is getting scrapped entirely in the latest rumblings by the broadcast networks.
The sixth season of CBS' "The Amazing Race," originally slated to premiere Saturday, September 26 then moved to October 2, will now be postponed indefinitely. The news however isn't a reflection of a lack of commitment on the Eye's part but rather to capitalize on the show's monster success this summer. By waiting until late October/early November, CBS executives hope to give viewers a breather between seasons instead of rushing back to the airwaves a few weeks after its September 21 finale. Traditionally, "Race" has experienced breaks of anywhere between three and 10 months between seasons.
Meanwhile, a similar scenario is said to be underway for FOX's "Athens," which comes from "The O.C." creator Josh Schwartz. At its upfront presentation, FOX outlined a plan which would have "Athens" on its January 2005 schedule where it would air on Monday nights alongside the new season of "24." Now it seems "Athens" won't make it to the air until at least the spring, as Schwartz reportedly doesn't want to rush the series to the detriment of either "The O.C." or "Athens." FOX or producer Warner Bros. Television have yet to confirm any sort of delay however it's clearly not a surprise considering the multitude of changes already done to its schedule since its original upfront presentation in May.
Finally back at the Eye, CBS and producer Warner Bros. Television confirmed this week it won't move forward with its proposed Jenna Elfman-led midseason comedy from "Dharma & Greg" creator Chuck Lorre. No specific reasons for the move were given other than creative differences with those involved. "This specific project isn't happening, but we couldn't think more highly of these two talented people," a CBS spokesman told The Hollywood Reporter.
