LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- UPN is moving forward with its "One on One" spin-off while newcomer "Second Time Around" won't be getting a full season order.
Both moves were announced yesterday by the netlet.
"Second," which has averaged a far from spectacular 3.17 million viewers in the Monday, 9:30/8:30c half-hour this season, will wrap production after its initial 13-episode order. Said numbers are off 22.11% from last season's Monday, 9:30/8:30c time period holder "Half & Half" during the same period (4.07 million). In terms of retention from lead-in "Girlfriends," "Half & Half" (94.87%) also fared better than "Second" (83.64%).
The decision however won't spell the end of the freshman comedy as it will remain under consideration for the 2005-06 season. It's expected the midseason entry "The Bad Girl's Guide" will take over for "Second" on Monday nights early next year.
As for its "One on One" spin-off, UPN has ordered six episodes of the series (previously known as "Splitting Hairs"), which now features the title "Cuts." Shannon Elizabeth ("American Pie") and Marques Houston ("You Got Served") star in the project, which revolves around Flex Washington's (Flex Alexander) barber-to-the-rap-stars brother (Houston), who's forced to manage the family barbershop with the new owner's spoiled daughter (Elizabeth). Shondrella Avery and Rashaan Nall also star in "Cuts," which was set up in a May 2004 episode of the parent series.
Eunetta T. Boone, Bennie Richburg, Robert Greenblatt and David Janollari are the executive producers of the series, which like "One on One" comes from Paramount Network Television and the Greenblatt-Janollari Studio.
