NEW YORK -- Viewers of the encore presentation of the classic holiday special RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, Friday, Dec. 17 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS will get a special treat. The closing credits will feature the network premiere of the new animated music video by Grammy Award-winning Destiny's Child of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," one of the most popular holiday songs of all time. In the video, the singers are transformed into Rudolph-like stop motion puppets that are transported from their recording studio to the North Pole to join Rudolph and his friends.
Destiny's Child joins the ranks of more than 100 popular recording artists, including Gene Autry, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, The Supremes, and Harry Connick, Jr., who have covered the 1949 hit by Johnny Marks.
This year, RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, the longest-running holiday special in television history, celebrates its 40th anniversary.
The Dec. 1 broadcast of RUDOLPH was the most watched and highest rated broadcast since December 2000 -- and the highest rated program of the season in children 2-11 and children 6-11. (The special was originally broadcast on CBS 12/8/72 after an eight year run on another network.)
