It's All in His Head: Mentalist Alain Nu Stars in Series of TLC Specials in 2005
- Alain Nu Shocks and Amazes With Mental Mind Games in
Four Specials Airing in April and May -
SILVER SPRING, Md., Jan. 13 -- He can move objects without
touching them. He can bend spoons with his mind. And he can defy death by
dodging an oncoming wrecking ball blindfolded. Welcome to the strange and
mystical world of mentalist Alain Nu -- a world that defies logic and rational
thought. Nu takes to the streets in cities such as San Francisco, New
Orleans, Baltimore and Houston to convince total strangers of the power of
their own minds to shape the world around them. The four one-hour specials,
MIND GAMES: THE MYSTERIOUS WORLD OF ALAIN NU (working title), will premiere on
TLC in April and May 2005.
In MIND GAMES, Nu travels the country to reveal remarkable mental feats
and conduct experiential challenges, all punctuated by existential insights.
Viewers will find themselves questioning their own brain power as they witness
Nu predicting the thoughts of passersby, reading the haircolor of volunteers
while blindfolded, even correctly guessing where to put his feet on a perilous
journey down Washington, D.C.'s "Exorcist" staircase, featuring cups with
nails underneath. His tricks, or "effects," unlock the secret world of our
subconscious minds.
Nu holds a unique power to manipulate people's perceptions by employing
the art of hypnotic suggestion, combined with the sciences of psychology and
neuro-linguistics (a practice he calls "tongue-fu"). Harnessing the universal
life force, or Qi, to conduct his effects, Nu conducts feats from the everyday
(predicting a ringing cell phone before it rings) to the out-of-this-world
(wrecking ball dodgeball, anyone?). Says Nu, "Science cannot explain what I
do. Many people have tried to guess. I am just an ordinary man. I do not
try to explain myself."
He has performed for many luminaries including former First Lady Barbara
Bush in 1992, and Al Gore during his terms as vice president. More recently,
Nu was invited to perform at George W. Bush's inaugural banquet. Nu is a
frequent guest at colleges and universities, where his "Extra Sensory
Perception" presentations have earned him wide recognition and acclaim.
"Alain's ability to use his extrasensory gifts to shed light on the human
condition illuminates our ability to connect with one another on unspoken
levels," Roger Marmet, general manager, TLC, said. MIND GAMES presents
viewers with a completely unique set of tools to understand the world around
them and the hidden world in their own minds."
