Buena Vista Television Renews 'The Tony Danza Show' for a Second Season
BURBANK, Calif., Feb. 8 -- Buena Vista Television has renewed
"The Tony Danza Show" for a second season, it was announced today by Janice
Marinelli, President, Buena Vista Television.
"'The Tony Danza Show' debuted last fall as the season's #1 new first-run
hour in syndication and has proven to be a great fit for daytime television.
We could not be more pleased," said Marinelli. "In the November sweep the
show delivered the highest share of any new first-run strip among women 18-49
and 25-54. The show's strong performance, Tony's ability to connect with the
daytime audience and the steadfast support of our station groups provide a
strong foundation for a second season."
"The success of 'The Tony Danza Show' is a direct result of Tony's immense
talent, versatility and broad appeal, coupled with a creative and driven
production team," said Gwynne Thomas, Executive Vice President, Development,
Buena Vista Productions. "We are very excited and look forward to a dynamite
season two."
"This is the greatest job I've ever had and the fact that I get to keep
doing it is a dream come true," said Tony Danza. "I thank the audience, Buena
Vista and everyone who works on the show because I couldn't do it without
them."
The live daytime talker has station renewals in 115 markets and over
80 percent of the country for the 2005-2006 season. Many of the second season
clearances represent time period and station upgrades for the show, most
notably in Los Angeles, where Danza will be upgraded to a daytime clearance on
one of the Viacom Television Station Group's Los Angeles stations (KCBS/KCAL).
"The Tony Danza Show" has delivered strong local ratings in major markets
across the country. In its most recent full week (NSI Overnight WRAP data,
1/31/05- 2/4/05), "The Tony Danza Show" averaged a 2.3 HH rating on all
metered market ABC-CBS-NBC stations broadcasting the show during the daytime
