BRAVO CELEBRATES THE LIFE AND WORK OF HUNTER S. THOMPSON WITH AIRING OF AUTOBIGRAPHICAL FEATURE FILM 'FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS'
NEW YORK -- February 23, 2005 -- This Friday, February 25th, Bravo pays tribute to the life and work of author Hunter S. Thompson with a late night broadcast of 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' (1998), the film version of Thompson's most famous work. The autobiographical film, starring Johnny Depp, Benicio Del Toro, Tobey Maguire, Ellen Barkin, Christina Ricci and Cameron Diaz, will air at 3:00 a.m. ET/PT...a time period where Hunter himself might actually have caught the film.
"Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" stars Johnny Depp as Raoul Duke (Thompson's alter-ego) who embarks on a road and drug trip to Las Vegas with his crazed Samoan lawyer to cover a sporting event and, more importantly, find the 'American Dream. I their search they encounter police, reporters, gamblers, racers, and hitchhikers and wind up discovering fear, loathing and hilarious adventure.
Hunter S. Thompson wrote many novels, including "Hell's Angels," "The Rum Diary," "Songs of the Doomed," "The Great Shark Hunt: Strange Tales from a Strange Time" and "Kingdom of Fear: Loathsome Secrets of a Star-Crossed Child in the Final Days of the American Century." But he was most famous for "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" which established him as a cult celebrity.
