ROSE BOWL CHAMPION TEXAS TO MEET BIG TEN POWER OHIO STATE IN PRIMETIME, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, ON THE ABC TELEVISION NETWORK
ABC Sports, the network of college football, will televise a primetime match-up between Rose Bowl champion Texas against Big Ten power Ohio State on Saturday, September 10, at 8:00 p.m., ET. The announcement was made today by Loren Matthews, senior vice president of Programming, ABC Sports.
"When the pre-season polls come out, we expect both Texas and Ohio State to be ranked in the Top 10," said Matthews. "They are serious contenders for this year's BCS National Championship."
The Texas Longhorns, led by Rose Bowl MVP and Heisman Trophy candidate QB Vince Young, finished the season 11-1 following their 38-37 win over Michigan in the Rose Bowl Game. Last season Young became the first player in UT history to throw and rush for more than 1,000 Yards (1,849 passing/1,079 rushing) in a season. Texas has finished the year ranked in the Top 10 in three of the last four seasons.
The Ohio State Buckeyes finished the regular season 8-4 and earned a trip to the Alamo Bowl, defeating Oklahoma State 33-7. Ohio State returns 18 starters, including NCAA record setter Ted Ginn Jr. and All-America linebacker AJ Hawk. The Buckeyes beat Michigan 37-21 last season in what is annually one of college football's most anticipated match-ups.
Several more primetime match-ups between traditional national powers will be announced at a later date.
