LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- ABC will expand its "Extreme Makeover" franchise on Monday, May 9 as the network will roll out "Extreme Makeover: Wedding Edition" that night at 10:00/9:00c.
The one-hour special, as you might expect, hopes to do to weddings what "Home Edition" does to homes. Here's how the original casting notice described the project:
"Extreme Makeover: Wedding Edition -- Helping couples say "I do" one wedding at a time. If you like what Extreme Makeover: Home Edition does for families - you'll love what Wedding Edition is going to do for deserving couples. Getting married is a serious business both financially and emotionally. Extreme Makeover: Wedding Edition will fulfill the wedding dreams of one worthy couple that desperately wants to get married, but just simply doesn't have the money, good health or support system to go through with it. If your story tugs at heartstrings like the stories you hear on Home Edition and you're ready to get married NOW, apply here."
Craig Armstrong ("Supernanny") and his Stoney Brook Productions banner are behind the special, which could return for additional installments next season or become a full-fledged series should ratings merit. Liza Minnelli will also reportedly perform during the hour.
Meanwhile in other ABC news, the network has confirmed that "Alias" will indeed air 22 episodes this season. Back-to-back installments will air on May 18 beginning at 9:00/8:00c while the season finale will follow "Lost's" two-hour season capper on May 25 at 10:00/9:00c. The news means that "Eyes" will likely wrap its season on May 11.
