The World Music Awards Move to Hollywood

THE WORLD MUSIC AWARDS MOVE TO HOLLYWOOD

For the first time ever, the World Music Awards will emanate from the prestigious Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California. The two-hour telecast, "The 2005 World Music Awards," will be taped on Wednesday, August 31 and broadcast TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. Awards will be presented to world-famous artists who have achieved worldwide success based on record sales.

The World Music Awards are the most televised of all music awards shows. The show airs in 160 countries, reaching more than a billion viewers around the world.

Established in 1989, the World Music Awards is the only awards show that honors the best-selling recording artists from every major country around the world. The Awards are given out for record sales ONLY. Sales figures which determine category winners are supplied and certified by the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonography Industry), with no voting audience or voting jury involved. Winners are determined by the record-buying public.

Last year "World Music Awards 2004," which emanated from Las Vegas for the event's first outing in the United States, increased Total viewership by17% (6.3 million vs. 5.4 million) and Adult 18-49 viewership by 24% among (2.6/7 vs. 2.1/6) over the previous telecast of the show.

Each year the World Music Awards benefits the Monaco Aide and Presence Foundation by constructing orphanages, schools and hospitals for underprivileged children in the third world. To date there are 16 active World Music Awards Centers around the world, with plans for additional locations.
