A DESERTED ISLAND IN A UTOPIAN WORLD -- KYLE MACLACHLAN, GABRIELLE ANWAR AND OMAR GOODING SET SAIL IN A STAR-STUDDED HALLMARK CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE EVENT, JULES VERNES MYSTERIOUS ISLAND

Also Stars Vinnie Jones and Patrick Stewart; Directed by 3s Russell Mulcahy; Cast and Crew Barely Escapes Tsunami Filming in Karobi, Thailand

Kyle MacLachlan, Vinnie Jones, Gabrielle Anwar, Omar Gooding, and Patrick Stewart set sail to the top of a Utopian world in an all-star production of Jules Vernes Mysterious Island, a three hour Hallmark Channel Original movie event which premieres Saturday, September 17 (8/7c).

Directed by Russell Mulcahy (3: The Dale Earnhardt Story), Jules Vernes Mysterious Island was filmed entirely on location in the lush coastal resort of Karobi, Thailand a location devastated by the tsunami that struck just 48 hours after principal photography wrapped.

Jules Vernes Mysterious Island follows the adventures of a group of castaways who use their survivalist savvy to build a functional community on an uncharted island. A hot air balloon carrying passengers escapes from Richmond, Virginia during the American Civil War only to be blown far off course, resulting in a crash landing on an uncharted island. One of the marooned voyagers nearly dies after a skirmish with bloodthirsty buccaneers, but is saved by mysterious medicine. The group discovers their secret helper Captain Nemo (Stewart) who later dies and is buried at sea in his beloved submarine.

Struggling to stay alive as they hunger for a rescue that may never come, the isolated, desperate survivors face pirates, scavengers, giant reptilian creatures, the wrath of Mother Nature and the inexplicable secrets of the Island.

The Mysterious Island was originally published in France as Lle mystrieuse and was translated into English in 1876.

Jules Verne (1828 - 1905) was the first author to popularize the literary genre of science fiction. With a meticulous scientific foundation for his fantastic adventure stories, Verne forecasts with remarkable accuracy many scientific achievements of the 20th century. In 1863, Verne wrote Paris in the 20th Century, about a young man who lives in a world of skyscrapers, high-speed trains, gas-powered automobiles, calculators and a worldwide communications network, yet cannot find happiness and comes to a tragic end.

Verne is the author of a number of the literary worlds most popular works, including Journey to the Centre of the Earth, From the Earth to the Moon, Around the World in 80 Days and the evergreen Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

Jules Vernes Mysterious Island is executive produced by Robert Halmi, Jr. and Larry Levinson. Nick Lombardo, Michael Moran, and H. Daniel Gross are co-executive producers. The Hallmark Channel Original movie event was produced by Russ Markowitz and directed by Russell Mulcahy.
