VH1'S First Scripted Comedy, 'so noTORIous,' Starring Tori Spelling Premieres Sunday, April 2 at 10PM
Tori Spelling is ... 'so noTORIous'
Also Starring Loni Anderson As Her Mother, 'Kiki'
PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 12 -- Tori Spelling stars as a
fictionalized version of herself in VH1's first scripted comedy "so
noTORIous." This single camera show is inspired by real events and people in
Tori's life. Also starring is Loni Anderson as her on-screen mother, "Kiki."
The series will premiere Sunday, April 2 at 10PM*.
Being a young single woman trying to navigate career, romance and family
is hard; being a young single Tori Spelling trying to do all this adds a whole
extra layer of freakishness. Yes, she's moved out of the Mansion, but into a
high-rise condo that she rents from her mother, and her next-door neighbor is
Farrah Fawcett. Tori rarely has a date that doesn't end with them giving her
their headshot and resume or asking for a sizeable loan. The only offers that
are coming in are for increasingly melodramatic cable TV movies (i.e.,
"Heartbreak Homicide") for the Female Channel, the poor man's Lifetime. Her
attempts to communicate with her imperious mother Kiki are usually interrupted
by an auction in her eBay room or a crisis in the Silver Room, and her
impossibly busy father is only reachable via speakerphone.
In addition to Loni Anderson who plays Tori's mother "Kiki," the show also
features Cleo King as "Margaret," the nanny who raised Tori from a baby and is
still always there for her, and Jeanetta Arnette as her frenetic and doting
manager "Ruthie Rose." Tori is surrounded by an eclectic group of friends:
"Pete," her self-involved roommate played by James Carpinello, "Janey," an
ambitious, acerbic real estate agent played by Brennen Hesser and "Sasan," a
haughty, gay Persian American played by Zachary Quinto. The only other
regular cast member playing herself is Mimi La Rue, Tori's dog, the most
fashionable (and indolent) pug west of the Mississippi.
"'so noTORIous' represents the perfect opportunity for VH1 to venture into
the world of scripted comedies," said Michael Hirschorn Executive Vice
President, Production and Programming VH1. "The series' premise and tongue-in-
cheek tone mirror VH1's pop culture sensibility. And Tori will surprise and
thoroughly entertain our viewers with her candor and ability to laugh at
herself."
"so noTORIous," was created and is executive produced by Chris Alberghini
and Mike Chessler (Murphy Brown, The Nanny, Reba) with Tori Spelling. Maggie
Malina, Danielle Woodrow and Michael Hirschorn will oversee production for
VH1. VH1 is producing 10 episodes.
