ABC TELEVISION NETWORK AND TOUCHSTONE TELEVISION GARNER FOUR 2006 ALMA AWARDS
The ABC Television Network and Touchstone Television garnered four American Latino Media Arts (ALMA) Awards at the 2006 ceremony held May 7 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA. The �2006 ALMA Awards� will air MONDAY, JUNE 5 (9:30-11:00 p.m., ET/PT) on the ABC Television Network. Eva Longoria (�Desperate Housewives�) hosts.
The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), which sponsors the ALMA Awards, honored Judy Reyes, who stars as Carla in the Emmy Award-winning Touchstone Television series �Scrubs,� with the Award for Outstanding Actress in a Television Series.
Two actors from the ABC/Touchstone Television award-winning series �Lost� received awards: Jorge Garcia, who stars as Hurley, was named Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Television Series, and Michelle Rodriguez, who stars as Ana Lucia, was named Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Television Series.
Eva LaRue, who stars as Maria Santos Grey on ABC�s �All My Children,� was given the ALMA Award for Outstanding Performance in a Daytime Drama.
The ALMA Awards was created by the NCLR, the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., in 1995 as part of NCLR�s strategy to promote fair, accurate and balanced portrayals of Latinos in the media and the enhancement of the Latino image in the entertainment industry. The show was named �ALMA� (Spanish for �spirit� or �soul�) to honor the determined spirit of the Latino community.
Jeff Margolis, Janet Murguia and David Chavez are executive producers of �The 2006 ALMA Awards.� The show is produced by Jeff Margolis Productions. Producers are Eva Longoria, Tisha Fein, Gloria Fujita O�Brien and Mick McCullough. The director is Ron De Moraes.
