ABC's 'Chief,' 'Primetime' May Live On; More Summer News
By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- While "Commander-In-Chief" may be done as a weekly series, ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson is considering a two-hour movie revival of the freshman drama.

Said project, mentioned during the network's pre-upfront conference call with reporters, would likely be written and directed by creator and former executive producer Rod Lurie. No other details however were mentioned.

As previously reported, "Chief" returns for its final three episodes on Wednesday, May 31 at 10:00/9:00c.

Meanwhile, ABC's "Primetime" - absent from its announced 2006-07 schedule - will indeed return next season as a series of specials (or again as a weekly series should the need arise).

ABC News chief David Westin confirmed the news in an e-mail to staffers this morning (courtesy of Broadcasting & Cable): "The primetime schedule for this fall has been announced and I wanted to let you know that our two newsmagazines, 20/20 and Primetime, have been renewed for full seasons. This means that each broadcast will be asked to produce at least 48 hours of news programming during the 2006-2007 season."

"20/20 is scheduled for 10 PM Fridays. Primetime will continue on Thursday night into September. We expect that Primetime will be put in a new time period sometime later in the season one in which Primetime and the overall primetime schedule will do the best for one another. Starting with the new season, Primetime will appear as special edition sometimes more than once a week."

And finally in other Alphabet news, advance schedules released by the network indicate "How to Get the Guy," a new summer series, has been slated to premiere Monday, June 12 at 10:00/9:00c.

No details however were available about the project.
