TINA FEY ANNOUNCES ON THE TONIGHT SHOW SHE WILL NOT RETURN TO SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE'S 'WEEKEND UPDATE' IN THE FALL
BURBANK, Calif. -- July 21, 2006 -- Appearing on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on Friday July 21, "Saturday Night Live" star Tina Fey announced that she would not return to the venerable late night show � to focus fully on her upcoming NBC comedy series "30 Rock."
"I'm not going to do 'Saturday Night Live' any more. I wish I could�I wanted to stop doing 'Saturday Night Live' so I could spend more time with Star Jones." Fey joked, adding, "The new show's going to take a lot of time."
Fey recently completed her sixth season as head writer and co-anchor of the "Weekend Update" segment on NBC's "Saturday Night Live." An Emmy winner for her writing on "Saturday Night Live," Fey has been the head writer of the show since 1999 and first joined the writing staff in 1997. "30 Rock" premieres this Fall on NBC.
"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" is from Big Dog Productions in association with NBC Universal Television Studios. Debbie Vickers is the executive producer. "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" airs Monday - Friday at 11:35pm (EST) on NBC.
