AMC Appoints Tom Halleen to Senior Vice President, Programming & Scheduling
July 2006 Performance Marks Strongest July in Network History
New York, NY, August 1, 2006 - AMC announced today that Tom Halleen has been named Senior Vice President of Programming and Scheduling for the network, where he will oversee AMC's program acquisitions, scheduling, media planning, and operations teams. Halleen will report to Rob Sorcher, Executive Vice President of Programming, Packaging and Production for AMC. In conjunction with today's news, AMC announced that July 2006 ranks as its best performing July ever and its second highest month ever in primetime household and key demo deliveries. The network is up +19% in rating and +20% in household delivery July 06 vs. July 05.
"Much of the network's overall ratings success is due to Tom's keen scheduling and acquisition instincts," stated Sorcher. "Tom's tireless pursuit of excellence and astounding track record has well-earned him this promotion."
Halleen joined AMC in September 2002 and most recently served as Vice President of Programming and Scheduling. Over the past three years, he has been instrumental in driving AMC's performance to record breaking levels, achieving the network's largest audience delivery across all dayparts in the network's 22-year history. Prior to joining AMC, Halleen spent twelve years at the Family Channel / Fox Family / ABC Family Channel, most recently as Senior Vice President, Prime Time Programming and Development.
In the last six months, AMC has made a series of original programming announcements and acquisitions, including BBC's critically acclaimed drama Hustle and the network's first dramatic pilot, Mad Men, from Matthew Weiner ("The Sopranos"). AMC also premiered its first original movie, Broken Trail, a two-day television event executive produced by and starring Academy Award winner Robert Duvall, co starring Academy Award nominee Thomas Haden Church and directed by Emmy award winning director Walter Hill. The heroic western story set in the American West at the close of the 19th century became the second most watched cable movie since 1995 and delivered the network all time record ratings with a stellar 7.7 HH rating, HH delivery (6.8 million) and total viewership (9.7 million). Using a programming formula that couples valuable iconic movies with cinematic original content, AMC has seen its ratings dramatically grow in the last three years, providing record rating growth in every day part each year since 2002.
