NBC SPORTS LAUNCHES SUNDAY NIGHT FANTASY FOOTBALL GAME
NEW YORK August 14, 2006 Capitalizing on the return of NFL Football to NBC and the dramatic growth in fantasy football participation, NBC Sports today announced a new weekly fantasy football game, Sunday Night Fantasy Football, based on "NBC Sunday Night Football" broadcasts. Fantasy football fans can sign up for free at NBCSports.com beginning on August 18 or immediately on Rotoworld.com to compete for some of the biggest prizes ever offered in fantasy sports.
"Creating a new fantasy football product specifically around our 'NBC Sunday Night Football' telecasts enhances the overall viewer experience and provides another compelling reason for the millions of fantasy football enthusiasts to watch our Sunday Night broadcasts," said Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics and Executive Vice President, Strategic Partnerships, NBC Sports.
According to the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, an estimated 11 million fans play fantasy football.
NBC Sports commissioned Allstar Stats/Rotoworld.com to design Sunday Night Fantasy Football and integrate their fantasy news content into the new game. Rotoworld, a 17-year-old company based in Somers, N.Y., is considered one of the top fantasy sports companies, offering a wide array of fantasy games and products including the deepest fantasy news section on the web.
SUNDAY NIGHT FANTASY FOOTBALL:
Unlike traditional fantasy football products that are season-long and utilize players from all NFL games, Sunday Night Fantasy Football is a weekly game based entirely on player performance during the "NBC Sunday Night Football" broadcast. On NBCSports.com, Rotoworld.com or on cell phones through NBC Mobile, fantasy football fans each week can enter Sunday Night Fantasy Football by selecting players competing in NBC's Sunday night primetime game.
The Sunday Night Fantasy Football game will feature one of the largest prize packages ever offered in fantasy sports, including all-expense paid VIP trips to New York and NBC's "Football Night in America" studio show, where weekly champions can watch Sunday's games with NBC's Bob Costas, Cris Collinsworth, Sterling Sharpe and Jerome Bettis. A variety of other prizes, including high-definition televisions, will be awarded to weekly and seasonal winners.
Sunday Night Fantasy Football will be promoted during NBC's football broadcasts, as well as part of an upcoming "NBC Sunday Night Football" national radio promotion. NBCSports.com and Rotoworld.com also will produce three weekly broadband fantasy football shows on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday morning, to keep fans abreast of the latest fantasy football news and information.
PLAYER ELIMINATOR GAME:
In addition to Sunday Night Fantasy Football, NBC Sports and Rotoworld have also created the Player Eliminator Game. Unlike Sunday Night Fantasy Football that is a week-by-week fantasy contest, the Player Eliminator Game is a season-long competition. Fans can only use a player once per season, with one exception: a player can be used twice if he's in the "NBC Sunday Night Football" game. The Player Eliminator Game was designed with the local market and NBC Television Stations and affiliates in mind. Competitors will be assigned to a local NBC TV station or affiliate based upon zip code and compete against regional and local football fans. Player Eliminator Game fantasy players will compete nationally for both weekly and season-long prizes.
