Robert Klug and Alicia Tanz Flaum to Direct "60 Minutes"

ROBERT KLUG AND ALICIA TANZ FLAUM TO DIRECT "60 MINUTES"

Veteran CBS News television director Robert Klug will direct 60 MINUTES as the news magazine begins its 39th season, it was announced today by the broadcast's executive producer, Jeff Fager.

Klug, who also directs 48 HOURS MYSTERY and will continue to do so, will be in charge of maintaining 60 MINUTES' elegant on-screen look and occasionally fine-tuning its venerable visuals. "Rob has a terrific eye, and he has been responsible for many quality broadcasts over the years at CBS News," said Fager. "He will be in charge of the overall look and feel of the broadcast, as well as some of our new ventures, including the new 60 MINUTES Website on Yahoo."

Klug has brought his discerning eye to several CBS News broadcasts over the years, including news magazines, specials and documentaries, earning a reputation for creating appropriate graphic concepts and styles for individual projects. He worked on specials for Hurricane Katrina, the death of Pope John Paul II, the Iraq War and 9/11 coverage; he directed the Emmy-winning "9/11" documentary for CBS in 2002. Klug began directing 48 HOURS in 1998; before that, he directed the CBS news primetime broadcasts "Before Your Eyes" in 1994 and "Coast to Coast" in 1997.

He began his career with CBS News in 1988 as an editor for 48 HOURS. Klug has directed and produced a variety of video projects outside of CBS, including news, reality and sports programming. His work for a United States Football League highlights show earned him a sports Emmy. He also directed the acclaimed PBS/BBC cultural magazine series "Edge."

Alicia Tanz Flaum will be the director in charge of handling the day-to-day duties of putting the broadcast together in the studio that she assumed three years ago. "Alicia has been like a rock in putting the broadcast together during the past few years. She is a real talent as a director and her many years of experience at 60 MINUTES are invaluable in getting us on the air every week with the same quality our viewers have come to expect," said Fager.

Tanz has served as associate director on 60 MINUTES for more than 20 years. Since joining CBS News in 1977, she has worked for many programs, including as associate director for the CBS EVENING NEWS, CBS weekend news broadcasts, SUNDAY MORNING and "60 Minutes II."

The former 60 MINUTES television director, Arthur Bloom, died last January.
