CANTERBURY'S LAW (FOX, New!) - Denis Leary and Jim Serpico's Apostle Productions has booked its second pilot order this development season, this time for a new drama about a rebellious female defense attorney who pushes the boundaries of the law to protect innocent clients. Dave Erickson ("The Perfect Husband: The Laci Peterson Story") is behind the hour, which is set up at Sony Pictures Television where Apostle has an overall deal. Erickson penned the pilot script and will serve as a co-executive producer. Leary and Serpico then will executive produce.

INSATIABLE (Showtime) - "That '70s Show" alum Kurtwood Smith has joined the cast of the pay channel pilot, about a small town where everyone has some sort of addiction. No details about his character were released.

THE NINE (ABC)/WITHOUT A TRACE (CBS) - Creator Hank Steinberg has inked a massive three-year, high-seven-figure overall deal with NBC Universal Television. The pact, which begins in June, calls for the writer/producer to develop new series projects exclusively for the studio. The deal marks the largest by the studio for pure development (i.e. without services on an existing show). Steinberg had been based at Warner Bros. Television since 2002.
NURSES (FOX) - Barry Josephson's drama about the lives and loves of a team of nurses in a big-city hospital has been ordered to pilot. Feature writers Samantha Goodman and Andy Stern ("Return to Me") penned the pilot script and will serve as co-executive producers. Executive producing then are Josephson and Shed Productions' Eileen Gallagher and Ann McManus.

SUPREME COURTSHIPS (FOX, New!) - Gary Tieche ("MDs") has scored a pilot commitment from FOX for a new drama about the professional and personal world of six Supreme Court clerks. The hour, which Tieche will write and executive produce, is based at 20th Century Fox Television and Marty Adelstein's Adelstein Productions. Adelstein and Michael Thorn then will executive produce alongside Tieche.
