ROBERT WALLACE JOINS ESPN AS VICE PRESIDENT, ESPN ORIGINAL ENTERTAINMENT

Robert B. Wallace, an Emmy-award winning producer with ABC News who has more than 30 years experience in the print and television media industries, has joined ESPN as vice president, ESPN Original Entertainment (EOE). Wallace will be based in ESPNs New York office and report to Ron Semiao, senior vice president, EOE.

Wallace will be responsible for determining and guiding the creative and strategic vision of EOE programming and production in the areas of documentary and unscripted/reality while also collaborating on EOEs scripted projects. He will be the senior executive in charge of the EOE office in New York.

In 2005, Wallace established his own media consulting company, Tumbling Dice Media, where he worked prior to joining ESPN. Among his clients were ESPN (NASCAR documentary), Conde? Nast (Portfolio, a new business magazine) and The New York Times (Sunday Magazine special issue).

Wallace worked at ABC News as a senior producer and senior story editor for Diane Sawyer at Prime Time Live from 1993-97. He received an Emmy in 1997 for Outstanding Informational or Cultural Programming for a segment he produced on the Ndoki Rain Forest in Africa.

Magazines under Wallaces editorship have won four National Magazine Awards for General Excellence, Reporting, Photography and Design.

Wallace began his media career at Wenner Medias Rolling Stone Magazine in 1974 as a researcher and rose to assistant managing editor before he left in 1980. From 1981-82 Wallace served as editor for Rocky Mountain Magazine; under his leadership the publication won a National Magazine Award for General Excellence in 1982.

He worked at the Denver Post from 1982-84 as features editor and Sunday magazine editor; he then moved to Newsweek in New York City where he was senior editor in charge of sports, medicine, science and television from 1984-86.

In 1986, Wallace returned to Wenner Media as editor of Rolling Stone, a position he held until 1993. During that time, Rolling Stone won National Magazine Awards for Reporting in 1986 (first major piece on AIDS), Photography in 1988 and Design in 1989.

Wallace served as editor-in-chief of St. Martins Press, the book publisher, from 1997-99. He then worked for Talk Magazine as editorial director from 1999 to 2002. Wallace returned to Wenner Media a third time, serving as editor of Mens Journal Magazine and editor-in-chief of Wenner Books, both from 2002-05.

He received a B.A. in English from Stanford University in 1972.
