POPULAR NBC DAYTIME STAR ALISON SWEENEY NAMED NEW HOST OF NBC'S HIT REALITY WEIGHT-LOSS SERIES 'THE BIGGEST LOSER'
"Days of Our Lives" Beloved "Sami" Joins the Series as it Prepares Production on Season Four
BURBANK -- February 20, 2007 -- Alison Sweeney, one of daytime television's most beloved actresses, joins NBC's hit reality show "The Biggest Loser" as the new host of the weight-loss series, which will begin taping its fourth season this spring.
"Alison is an incredible talent and will bring not only a great fresh face to the show but a huge, loyal fan base," said Ben Silverman, executive producer and Reveille CEO. "We are thrilled and look forward to another strong season."
Sweeney has portrayed villainess Sami Brady on NBC's hit daytime drama "Days of our Lives" since January 6, 1993 and will continue to star on the series while hosting "The Biggest Loser." For her performance tackling a variety of controversial storylines from a rebellious teen to an accomplished single mother on "Days," Sweeney has garnered numerous award including The Soap Opera Digest Awards four times (1986, '98, '99 and 2001) for the role of "Favorite Villain," "Favorite Good Girl" and "America's Favorite Villain." Her television credits also include "Las Vegas," "Friends," and her memorable freak-out on the celebrity edition of "Fear Factor."
Since her debut as "Sami Brady" on "Days of our Lives," Sweeney has personally struggled with her weight issues, which she candidly discussed in her book All The Days of My Life (So Far), which was published in 2004 to critical acclaim. She currently maintains her slim look by running after her 2-year-old son and working out at Boot Camp as many days a week as her production schedule allows.
The first reality series in which everybody "loses," "The Biggest Loser" challenges and encourages overweight participants to undergo radical physical makeovers, without any kind of surgery, in a safe and recommended manner through comprehensive diet and exercise as they complete for a grand prize of $250,000. The series has become a worldwide hit airing in over 35 territories and 15 countries. It has also produced a New York Times best-selling book and a burgeoning online lifestyle club www.biggestloserclub.com .
"The Biggest Loser" is a production of Reveille LLC, 25/7 Productions and 3 Ball Productions. Ben Silverman (NBC's "The Office," "Ugly Betty"), Dave Broome ("Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope," "Radio Music Awards"), JD Roth ("Unanimous," "Beauty and the Geek"), Todd A. Nelson ("Unanimous," "Beauty and the Geek") and Mark Koops ("Blow Out," "The Restaurant") serve as executive producers.
