A&E AND ICE CUBE ARE GOOD IN THE HOOD NETWORK IN DEVELOPMENT ON A PILOT WITH HIP HOP LEGEND
New York, NY March 13, 2007 - A&E Network is currently in development on a forceful non-fiction pilot produced by legendary hip-hop and film artist Ice Cube (Black White, Are We Done Yet?) and produced by reality TV veteran Dave Broome (The Biggest Loser) and Matt Alvarez (Black White, Are We Done Yet?) titled Good in the Hood a powerful and riveting show that explores stories of ultimate redemption. In the vein of the fictional film American History X, Good in the Hood will feature real people who have pulled themselves back from the edge and are trying to do good by saving people they love from the life they once led. The announcement was made today by Robert Sharenow, Senior Vice President, Non-Fiction & Alternative Programming, A&E Network.
A&E is thrilled to be working with Ice Cube, said Sharenow. He has the ideal creative sensibility, street credibility, and passion to make this show a success. Good in the Hood fits perfectly with our brand of eye-opening Real-Life series such as Dog the Bounty Hunter and Intervention, representing remarkable personal stories in an entertaining but raw and honest way.
This show is a way to demonstrate what is going on in a positive way in the urban community, said Ice Cube. It is very important for me as an artist and individual to make sure these stories are told and I am grateful to A&E to allow us to do this.
Casting for the pilot of Good in the Hood has just commenced. If greenlit to series, each episode will start with Ice Cube introducing viewers to one individual - whether it is a former gang member, drug dealer, or a young, single mother coming from a home of domestic violence. Each of them will have one thing in common - they will have come from a situation where there was seemingly no hope, to a place where they can reach their goals, dreams and aspirations. They will each return to their past to try to save someone from the mistakes they had previously made. It may be a brother, friend, or even a complete stranger that theyve just learned about, but over the course of each episode, they will work hard to gain trust and do everything in their power to change that persons life.
In a society where the media exploits and sensationalizes negative headlines, this show will take the viewer on an emotional and gripping roller coaster ride as they watch someone try and pay it forward and Im thrilled to be working with A&E on what we hope will be a groundbreaking series, said Broome.
Robert Sharenow and Colleen Conway are the A&E Executive Producers. Dave Broome, Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez are the series executive producers. Good in the Hood is produced for A&E Network by 25/7 Productions and Cube Vision Productions.
