Summer Sees 'Death,' 'Geek' Return While 'Palms,' 'Crashers' Exit
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- A round-up of the various scheduling changes announced over the holiday weekend, broken down by network:

ABC

-- The Alphabet is nixing its "Kyle XY" encores. A pair of "George Lopez" repeats (view the listing) will sub in for the show's July 13 broadcast, leaving this Friday (July 6) as its last airing on the ABC Family sibling.

-- The network remains mum on what will bookend its new reality series "NASCAR in Primetime" on Wednesday nights starting August 8. Among the possibilities: the yet-to-be-scheduled "Greg Behrendt's Wake-Up Call" and the long-promised return of the defunct drama "The Nine."

CBS

-- CBS will send "Shark" to its fall time period of Sundays at 10:00/9:00c starting July 22 (view the listing) while "Without a Trace" presumably will shift to Thursdays at 10:00/9:00c the following week.

-- To make room for "Big Brother's" Tuesday edition, "The Unit" will relocate to Saturdays at 8:00/7:00c effective July 14 (view the listing).

-- "How I Met Your Mother" will double up on Monday nights starting July 16 with episodes at 8:00/7:00c (view the listing) and 9:30/8:30c (view the listing). Then in August, returning comedy "Rules of Engagement" will likely assume the 9:30/8:30c slot.

FOX

-- Newcomer "Don't Forget the Lyrics's" initial run will be for a total of six hours this summer. Half-hour installments are set for Wednesday, July 11 at 9:30/8:30c; Thursday, July 12 at 8:30/7:30c; Wednesday, July 18 at 9:30/8:30c; Thursday, July 19 at 8:30/7:30c; Wednesday, July 25 at 9:30/8:30c; and Wednesday, August 1 at 9:30/8:30c while full hours are slated for Thursday, July 26 at 8:00/7:00c; Thursday, August 2 at 8:00/7:00c; and Wednesday, August 8 at 9:00/8:00c.

-- Two previously unaired episodes of "Nanny 911" are being eyed for Thursday, August 30 at 9:00/8:00c and Thursday, September 6 at 9:00/8:00c.

-- "Standoff" will apparently close its run after 18 episodes, not 19 as widely indicated. The show's final two installments will air on Friday, July 20 at 8:00/7:00c (view the listing) and 9:00/8:00c (view the listing). Various movies, including "Austin Powers in Goldmember," "Hollywood Homicide," "XXX," "The Animal" and "13 Going on 30," will then fill FOX's Friday schedule starting July 27.

-- As previously reported, "Drive's" two-hour swan song has been shifted to Friday, July 13 at 8:00/7:00c (view the listing). A rebroadcast of the feature "Anger Management" will instead fill the network's schedule tonight (view the listing).

-- Repeats of the network's returning comedy "'Til Death" will join FOX's Sunday lineup starting July 22 at 7:30/6:30c (view the listing) before moving to Wednesday nights on August 22. The series hasn't aired since its one-hour season finale back in April.

NBC

-- "Age of Love" encores will continue to fill the network's Monday, 8:00/7:00c slot for the foreseeable future (leading into first-run episodes at 9:00/8:00c), save for the previously announced backdoor pilot special "Victoria Beckham: Coming to America" on July 16. Said development means that the remaining produced installments of "The Real Wedding Crashers" will likely sit on the shelf.

-- The Peacock is expected to continue with encores of "America's Got Talent" on Saturday nights for the remainder of the summer. Newcomer "The Singing Bee" likewise will rebroadcast on said night at 8:00/7:00c starting July 14.

-- And finally, it's not clear when or if repeats of "Friday Night Lights" or "Heroes" will rejoin the network's lineup this summer.

The CW

-- The netlet began billing tonight's "Hidden Plams" season finale as its "series finale" over the weekend, officially torpedoing any chances for a second season of the series.

-- Repeats of both "Beauty and the Geek" and "America's Next Top Model" will join the CW's lineup in the coming weeks with the former set for Tuesdays at 9:00/8:00c starting July 17 (replacing "Veronica Mars" repeats). Back-to-back "Model" repeats then will fill the network's Wednesday lineup effective July 11 with a sole repeat at 9:00/8:00c tonight.

As always, all upcoming schedules are subject to change.
