LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- FOX has officially nixed its planned "Drive" burn off while a special all-new "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" has been slated for Monday, July 23 at 8:00/7:00c.
The former news was tucked away in Monday's scheduling updates released by the network. Originally targeted for Wednesday, July 4, the two-episode broadcast was then shifted to Friday, July 13. Now said installments have been shelved for good ("The previously announced DRIVE episodes are no longer scheduled to air," notes the release). In its place on Friday, July 13, FOX will revert back to its previous schedule for the night - a repeat of "Bones" and the penultimate episode of "Standoff." Subsequently, the following week (July 20) will likewise revert to a repeat of "Bones" and the series finale of "Standoff."
Various movies, starting with "Austin Powers In Goldmember," will fill the network's Friday schedule beginning July 27.
It's not clear if the two unaired "Drive" episodes will be streamed on the show's MySpace page, which still houses the first four installments.
As for "5th Grader," said broadcast replaces a pair of "Family Guy" repeats. The move comes as newcomer "Don't Forget the Lyrics" expands to a full hour on Thursday nights that same week, where it will pre-empt "5th Grader" for at least two weeks.
