UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - July 19, 2007 - The newly renamed Universal Media Studios captured a record 60 Primetime Emmy Award nominations for the 2006-07 season today -- crushing its previous record of 36 -- over a broad span of categories, paced by the acclaimed freshman series "30 Rock" with 10 and "Heroes" with 8, along with 9 for "The Office" and 10 more for the miniseries "The Starter Wife." In addition, "Heroes" and "House" were nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, "30 Rock" and last year's Emmy-winning "The Office" were among the candidates for Outstanding Comedy Series, "The Starter Wife" was nominated for Outstanding Miniseries, and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" was nominated again as Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series.

Among the studio's stars that were honored are Steve Carell of "The Office," three-time Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub of "Monk" and Alec Baldwin of "30 Rock" - all as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Likewise, Tina Fey was nominated as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Hugh Laurie was nominated for the second time as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series as was Mariska Hargitay, last year's winner for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," who was named among the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category. Debra Messing - a previous winner for the studio's "Will & Grace" - was nominated again, this time for "The Starter Wife," as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries.

Rainn Wilson of "The Office" was nominated as Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series while fellow cast member Jenna Fischer also was named among the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category. Masi Oka of "Heroes" was feted as one of the nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Elaine Stritch was nominated as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance on "30 Rock" while Stanley Tucci was likewise tabbed among the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for his work on "Monk." Both Marcia Gay Harden and Leslie Caron were nominated as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for their portrayals on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" while David Morse was nominated as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance on "House."

Universal Media Studios also scored more acting honors on the longform side when Joe Mantegna of "The Starter Wife" was nominated as Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie while castmate Judy Davis also was named among Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie

The studio -- formerly the NBC Universal Television Studio until it was renamed last month - also gained four nominations from "House," "Battlestar Galactica" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." In addition, it picked up three more from "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Saturday Night Live" and two from the critically hailed "Friday Night Lights" (including one nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series) and "Monk." "Eureka" added one nomination.

In the category of Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, the studio nearly swept the field with four of the five nominations (two each for "30 Rock" - Tina Fey and Robert Carlock -- and "The Office" -- Greg Daniels and Michael Schur). Likewise, "Battlestar Galactica" earned a nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
